Katarzyna Hołda’s MA diploma. Two sculptures refer to two kinds of religiousness: contemplative, introspective (white sculpture) and folk, with rich rituals (colored sculpture in a manner of Catholic kitsch).

The first Madonna refers to ancient sculptures of gods; shows pagan roots of Christianity and the area of spirituality which is universal for every religion.

The second Madonna shows what is specific for Catholicism, what distinguishes it from other confessions.

The sculptures complete each other – the two kinds of religiousness are not opposite but only together can create emotional and cultural whole. Both Madonnas are pregnant, what emphasis fertility and corporeality, physiology of Mary, her femininity in biological aspect.
